HFM Architects has completed enhancement works to the four entrances of The Royal Exchange, improving accessibility and refining the arrival experience at this historic landmark.

The design introduces a new metal petal ceiling, bringing a lighter and brighter feel to the space while maintaining accessibility for existing services. A new illuminated signage feature has been integrated into the primary entrances, with a refresh to the signage zones on the north and south elevations, ensuring greater visual clarity and cohesion across the building’s multiple access points. Improvements to the east entrance include a refined approach with ramping and automatic glazed doors to facilitate easier entry.

Working within the constraints of a Grade I Listed building required a careful and sensitive approach, balancing modern interventions with the building’s historic fabric. We continue to collaborate with Ardent on a series of projects at The Royal Exchange, including the development of future tenant design guidelines, as well as additional work across their wider portfolio.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our work on this evolving landmark.
